Overview

Doubao is ByteDance's consumer AI assistant with one of the largest user bases among Chinese AI apps. It covers chat, writing, image generation, voice calls, and video understanding, hosts a large catalog of user-built bots, and serves as a major distribution outlet for the Coze ecosystem. The desktop app adds screenshot Q&A and a floating assistant for office work. Its strengths are being free, fast, and well connected to ByteDance's ecosystem (Feishu, CapCut), making it a good daily assistant for study and office tasks. As a general assistant it is weaker at long-horizon autonomous task execution than dedicated agent products, and enterprise capabilities go through Volcengine. The domestic version stores data in mainland China; ByteDance runs a separate international line (Cici).
