Overview

Qoder is Alibaba's AI coding IDE, launched in August 2025. Built on VS Code, it rethinks two things: Quest mode (hand an entire development task to a background agent that returns a PR-level result asynchronously) and repo-level context retrieval (the tool indexes your codebase and maintains a Wiki so the model understands the whole project, not single files). It suits daily development on medium-to-large codebases, cross-module refactoring, and delegation-style programming. Compared with Trae, Qoder goes deeper on repository understanding and full agentic execution; compared with Cursor, it is friendlier for China-based developers (direct access and local payment options). The international edition runs separately, and data residency depends on which edition you use.
